A Corpus-Based Study on Metaphor in Ecological Discourses

In response to environmental issues around the world, United Nation and Chinese NGO have launched various proposals policies focusing on relationships between humans nature. From perspective of conceptual metaphor, this study analyses UN Protected Planet Report 2020, China Environment Yearbook, edited by first NGO, Under theory Conceptual Metaphor Lakoff Johnson, a corpus-based methodology combining qualitative quantitative approaches was applied demonstrate traits metaphors used in reports illustrate models ecological discourses English. This article figured out that conflict, journey, living organism metaphor can best reflect different ideologies parallel two cultures. It helps identify characteristics language use English discourses.
